All the doom and gloom isn’t

so satisfying

emotive but not everlasting we are

moved by sadness

but we hold onto what makes us

feel warmer carry it in

our bodies we cower from

the dark always looking

over our shoulders moving toward

what is light and safe against all odds

I started to write

another downer but I can’t bear to

wear a frown for any longer

It’s never fit

quite right on

my face My muscles

don’t like to

move that way down

towards the ground they’d rather pull

up around my teeth

What is it that makes you smile

that space you can stay

a while in

spending all of your time inside

melting away day after day

and night after night

under the stars with open arms

I’ll be there today

A bright place

where I can sit peacefully

where light can find me

Quiet rain hit against our windows yesterday

it felt unlike the spring days

we’ve been having lately

Sun moving in and out of the clouds

playing peek a boo

through the cracked windows

I welcome the change

Small wins

Made a hot toddy in the evening

with cinnamon whiskey

joked of things gone wrong

and planned for our next meeting

over Netflix recs with

friends I haven’t seen

in person since December

let a soy candle burn

promising some rest

perhaps tonight

I will sleep without waking
