Anna of the North’s Anna Lotterud just released a new bubbly indie pop track, “Thank Me Later,” serving as a commentary on gender roles.

The Norwegian singer-songwriter and New Zealand born bandmate/producer Brady Daniell-Smith created another bright, fizzy synth pop hit with new track, “Thank Me Later,” that is true to the dreamy electro-pop sound that has garnered critical acclaim and a substantial following.

Both in the track “Thank Me Later,” and in the music video, Lotterud gets political singing about more non traditional themes of a female pursuing a love interest, and literally objectifying the male partner and turning him into a life-size treat.

Anna of the North worked with director Harry Barber to produce the infectious romance between Lotterud and the ice cream. The love story follows the sweet pair as they take over the city and frolic through grassy fields.

Lotterud talks inspiration for the track and role reversals.

“I’m super excited about this song. It’s the first song I wrote towards this next record. There are so many songs where girls get objectified and controlled by the powerful and rich front man, made out to be all sexy and cute. I’m a front woman and this is a chance for me to get my own back. As well as to remind the guys that it’s not all about the money and that they can be sexy and cute too.”

Fans have had a taste of what’s to come from Lotterud, with the handful of singles she released this year including “Leaning On Myself,” “Used To Be,” and “Thank Me Later.” Keep an eye out for her upcoming album!
